What is a Ceramic Coating?

I wanted to answer probably the number one question I get when it comes to ceramic coatings, and that is what is a ceramic coating.
I'll start by saying that there are ceramic coatings for the interior and exterior of your vehicle.
On your interior, a ceramic coating applied to the fabric, leather, plastics, etc. provides:
Added UV protection.
Protection from spills and staining.
Some protection from wear and tear.
On the exterior of your car, a coating can be applied to the paint, plastic trim, wheels, headlights, and windows.
This makes your car easier to wash, no need to wax, added UV protection, and protection from bird droppings, tree sap, etc that can etch into your paint.
So, a ceramic coating is a silica-based product that bonds to your car's paint and creates a highly durable protective layer on that surface.
Most professional coatings are so durable that they need to be polished to remove them. So you don't need to worry about wearing it off from washing.
For comparison, you've got waxes that only last a couple of weeks, maybe a week during hot summer months or cold, snowy months.
Paint sealants, at best, can get you 5 to 6 months.
So, these products are going to have to be reapplied multiple times during a year.
Ceramic coatings last anywhere from one year, three years, five years. We carry a coating that can last up to 25 years.
Please be aware that the longevity of a ceramic coating, or any product, is depended on you or your detailer maintaining that coating regularly.
As always, as of writing this, there is no actual lifetime coating. All coatings require some form of upkeep and possibly reapplication.
As long as you're maintaining your car regularly, the coating should perform just like it did on day one.
A simple wash, dry the car off and walk away. You don't need to spend time after drying your car applying wax or some form of protection.
Bug guts, tree sap, road tar, and bird droppings are all going to be a lot easier to clean up. You won't have to be so aggressive when trying to remove these contaminants. Most of the time, there'll be no need for specialized products.
With that investment in the ceramic coating, you're protecting the OEM paint from those types of contaminants, which can etch into and ruin your paint surface.
This is all about protecting your car and making maintaining it easier for you! Ceramic coatings give you all the benefits of waxes and sealants and offer a level of protection that waxes and sealants can't.
They can also make life's accidents less of a worry, making spills easy to clean up.
We have a great video that shows how a liquid acts when it comes into contact with a coated interior.
